Abstract

This contribution hinges on lies as real historical evidence of gender relations, and therefore useful tools in the documentation of relations between the sexes. Indeed, without this kind of investigation, the history of the medieval mentality would lack an essential component. It is, however, possible to analyse French and Italian moral/didactic literature sources and their iconography and relate them to the official teachings imparted from the latter centuries of the second millennium
