La série d’articles présentée ici rassemble des témoignages et réflexions sur le travail de Roland Marchal et dessine un portrait du chercheur de terrain, du sociologue des conflits, de l’intellectuel public et de l’expert des réunions onusiennes. Tatiana Carayannis et Louisa Lombard soulignent ses contributions novatrices à l’analyse de la société en guerre en Centrafrique. Enrica Picco présente le chercheur-expert qui critique sans ménagement les interventions de la « communauté internationale » et ose des propositions de sortie de crise « out of the box ». Grâce à Delphine Kemneloum Djiraïbe apparaît une autre facette du personnage : celui qui s’engage sur ses terrains, travaille avec la société civile tchadienne et n’a pas peur d’expliquer, à Paris comme à N’Djamena, les raisons du soutien de la France à Idriss Déby.

Tatiana Carayannis and Louisa Lombard underline his innovative contributions to the analysis of the society at war in the Central African Republic. Enrica Picco presents the expert-researcher who criticizes the international community’s intervention, and dares to formulate “out of the box” ideas to end the crisis. With Delphine Kemneloum Djiraïbe, we see how Roland Marchal is committed to his field site, works with Chadian civil society, and is not afraid to explain, in Paris as in N'Djamena, the reasons for France's support for Idriss Déby.
