L’anticolonialisme comme frein au progressisme en Afrique, retour sur un impensé

Abstract

Ce court texte est la transcription de mon intervention au colloque « Religion et révolution conservatrice : perspectives comparatives » les 23, 24, 25 octobre 2023 à Genève, à l’initiative de la Chaire Yves Oltramare. Il revient sur le potentiel dévoiement des luttes progressistes captives d’une vision des sociétés colonisées encore très paternaliste. Avec deux focus sur les usages de la religion, l’islam en l’occurrence au Sénégal, et l’alliance pour le moins surprenante entre décoloniaux en Occident et identitaires au Sud, il évoque les fragilités du front anticolonial.

Anticolonialism Curbing Progressivism in Africa: A Review of an Unthought

This short text is the transcript of my lecture at the conference “Religion and the conservative revolution: comparative perspectives” on 23, 24, and 25 October 2023 in Geneva, organised by the Yves Oltramare Chair. The text explores the potential misuse of progressive struggles wich are captive to a still highly paternalistic vision of colonised societies. Focusing on the use of religion, namely Islam in Senegal, and the surprising alliance between decolonialists in the West and identitarians in the South, it highlights the fragility of the anti-colonial front.
